Description
I just began exploring a treasure trove of clothing and linens that were stored for sentimental reasons five generations ago by German-American family members who did fine needlework. The items' dates range from 1852 to about 1914. This fancy child's petticoat (it could be a dress, but I'm quite sure it was meant to be worn under a dress, with the embroidered band showing) is ivory in color, made of sturdy cotton. It measures 9 1/2" from underarm to underarm; 7" from shoulder seam to bodice seam; 9 1/2" across the waistband; 12" from the bottom of the waistband to the bottom of the trim. There are some slight imperfections, but I can see this looking terrific under a holiday dress or in a theatrical production or historical school "wax museum" or tableau. Freshly washed and ironed. Thanks for looking. You can learn about the family that owned this item in my new book A German-American Childhood in Old Canarsie, New York, available on eBay.
